Masculine Card

I think Spring is finally coming to Minnesota!   They are predicting our first 70 degree day of 2014!!  I sure hope Mother Nature comes through!

Today’s Operation Write Home (OWH) Midweek Throwdown Challenge is to create a masculine card.   With water running in the gutters, sunshine in great abundance and winds whipping, sailboats came to mind.   So here’s my card for this week ~

This card has a few things going on – first is quite a few layers.  I used lighter weight paper for the blue layers to keep some of the bulk down.   I also used some of the finer baker’s twine from American Crafts to create the sailor’s knot for the same reason.  The stamp is called Sail Away from Stampin’ Up!   Apparently they are no longer selling the woodblock stamp that I have, but they do have a digital version available.  The image has been stamped using Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.

I hope your skies are also sunny and that Spring has found it’s way to your neighborhood as well!

Father’s Day

Hello all!

This week’s Operation Write Home (OWH) Midweek Throwdown Challenge is to create a Father’s Day card.

A little while ago I ordered a Spellbinders Texture Plate called Keys thinking it would be just the right thing for a masculine card, so a Father’s Day card it is!

My experience is that masculine cards need to either be clean and simple or very detailed.  Today it’s the clean and simple approach.   I embossed a sheet of Gold Spellbinders Premium Craft Foil using the Keys Texture Plate, mounted it on some dark brown cardstock and adhered the layers to a cream colored card base.   The sentiment is from Gourmet Rubber Stamps called Happy Father’s Day.

I hope someone thinks it’s just the right thing for their dad!
