Color Challenge: Red/White or Green/White

Hello all,

This week’s Midweek Throwdown from Operation Write Home is to make a red/white or green/white card that is NOT a Christmas card.   It’s been unseasonably cold here in MN and I must’ve been hoping for a little bit of spring through this card.

I’m sure you can tell by now that my favorite card style is clean and simple!   This card uses a green card base with a sticker – I’m sorry I can’t remember who made the sticker, I made this card a little while ago.  It came on a sheet of 5 or 6 stickers and I was so happy with the results I was getting that I made them all up right away.   The border around the flower is a part of the sticker too, so a bonus is faux matting with no muss/no fuss! Even though I do like the clean and simple look, I’m not overly fond of cards that are missing some texture and dimension and for this card I’ve done a bit of embellishing.  The flower petals, flower stem and the dragonflies have Glossy Accents applied and then some small pearls were added to the lower right to dress it up just a bit.

I hope you like the card!

Love Cards for Kids

Hello, hello,

Love cards for kids – what a GREAT Midweek Throwdown challenge from Operation Write Home!   We know that all of the troops – male, female, married or not – have a kid or two back home who’d love to receive a card! Here’s my contribution to that effort!  I think some little guy would have fun with this one!

The car is the 57 t bird car print and cut set (Design ID #12253) from the Silhouette Store.  It is mounted on an Action Wobble spring.  The sentiment is from Gina K Designs – One in a Million stamp set.

Have a great day!

Happy Wednesday to you all!

Well, it seems I was a bit ahead of myself last week.   The Operation Write Home (OWH) Midweek Throwdown challenge was for Valentine’s Day and I chose to showcase cards that were generic with a Love tone but could still be used for Valentine’s Day …   little did I realize that my approach would be what has been asked for this week!   Ah well …    it’s all good!

So, here’s another card that is all about Love.   The sentiment is from Technique Tuesday – Always Adore stamp set by Ali Edwards.   It’s  been layered onto black cardstock.  The sentiment mat is offset and adhered to a second mat made from a paper pieced scraps layer which has been adhered to the same black cardstock.   The combined mat was then adhered to a card base.

So that’s it for today!   Hope you like it and I’ll catch you next week!

Valentine’s Day

Happy Wednesday to you!

Yes, it does seem early but, with shipping time considerations, today’s Midweek Throwdown is Valentine’s Day cards for Operation Write Home (OWH).  Actually, I got mine started a while ago and today I have photos of some that I sent in recently.  These cards feature designs from the Silhouette Studio and a digital image.  Cut files were made using the Silhouette Cameo.  The digital file was printed using Microsoft Word 2010.

This card uses the Lovebirds with Stand Silhouette die cut (Design ID #40401)  – stand omitted – for the birds and the heart and just a simple piece of ribbon for ornamentation.

This card uses Love Stack Hearts Silhouette Studio die cut (Design ID #40935) – just a one layer card with the same little solid heart from the card above added.

2013, 12-04 - Midweek Throwdown - Valentine Challenge - 02This card uses a digital image that I put into a Word document and then added some shadowed text before printing.  It seems that the creator is no longer in business, which is sad because I liked her work.  The print is layered on a black mat and then on a metallic pink mat before being adhered to the card base.

I hope you enjoyed today’s cards!!
